From the Chair

Hello everyone and welcome to the Autumn Newsletter. I hope that you have had a great summer and enjoyed the fantastic weather we experienced.

Although it has been the holiday season, we have remained active and now have well over 200 families in our membership. Most of our new members come by way of the internet, but recently an increasing number are learning about us through their Consultant. This is obviously great news for the Group in that our existence is becoming more well known, but also that our reputation is such that Professionals are happy to pass our details on. We need to build on this and it is one of our aims in the next six months. More details as they become available, but in the meantime please carry on with spreading the word as much as possible. Don't hesitate to contact us for leaflets to display at your local Orthopaedic Hospital.

We have recently had an inspiring Committee Meeting in Buckinghamshire and I always drive home from these occasions full of renewed enthusiasm and feeling incredibly lucky to have such a supportive, dedicated committee! However, without the support of our members we could not achieve our goals and we do appreciate all the support you give us in many ways, whether by fund raising, writing articles for the newsletter, offering help or suggestions or simply by letting us know that you are there and finding the Group useful! So "thank you" and please keep up the good work - we need you!!

Talking of Committee Members, one of our National Contacts, Pat Savage, has recently undergone extensive surgery and I know that you will join me in wishing Pat a speedy recovery.

A quick update - last time, I mentioned that we were aiming to redesign our literature. Thanks to Steve Faley and Brian Stanbury, this is now well under way for our Group Leaflet and Information for Schools leaflet. In the long term we would like to have a range of Information Sheets available and if you feel you could help with the writing of these, we would love to hear from you.

Finally, in the Spring of each year, we have to hold an AGM (by the rules of the Constitution) and we have been busy planning an interesting meeting around the 2004 AGM. Preliminary details inside from Sarah!

Very best wishes

Helen Small
