From the Chair

Hello everyone.

I am delighted that Debi is back with this issue and hope you enjoy it.

We are in exciting times!!

The Conference in October went very well and you can find more details from Sarah inside. We are looking forward to the next one already.

The Group continues to grow and we now have 150 memberships, many of which are families with several members that have HME. We still need to raise awareness of the Group so please spread the word whenever possible. If you have a hospital visit coming up, please give us a call and we can send some group leaflets for you to take and put on display in outpatients or on the ward.

The big news is that we are registering as a charity. Thank you for your overwhelming support on this. Not one member disapproved of the move and plans are well under way now. This will give us a more formal basis from which to move forward and should help us to be more successful with funding.

Talking about money, the Committee have had a lot of discussion in the past year about introducing a membership fee. Basically we don't really want to do this, but the Group is getting big now and the cost of stationery and postage, along with the production of the newsletter is getting rather high. Therefore, we have come up with a compromise - in the near future we will be asking for an annual voluntary subscription of £5.00 per membership. (Not yet! it is better for us to wait until we are a Registered Charity). We hope you agree that this is a good solution and I will write with more details later.

Once again, thank you for all your support and as always, please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions for the Group. We like hearing from you!!

With best wishes

Helen Small
