From the Chair

Hello everyone and a warm welcome to our Autumn Newsletter.

We are in exciting times - I know I said that in the last newsletter, but we really are!

Our membership has increased to around 180 families and I am pleased to announce that we have a new National Contact/ Membership Secretary to join Judith and Stephen. Pat Savage lives in Weymouth and we have now split the country into three areas to spread the workload. A very big welcome to Pat!

We are now a fully-fledged Registered Charity and this is already opening doors for funds and grants. Many thanks to everyone who sent voluntary subscriptions - for anyone who would like to contribute and hasn't yet, there is a form enclosed for your use. This money is proving to be very helpful in maintaining the basic running costs of the Group. Dawn has been busy spreading the word about HME and the Group through fundraising events - see inside for all the news. Thanks Dawn!

Did you see the two episodes of Children's Hospital in July that featured a young girl with HME? This caused a flurry of activity for us and although we couldn't persuade the BBC to give our details out after the programme, they were extremely helpful in putting a link to our website from theirs. Fantastic news for raising awareness of the condition and the Group.

Finally, arrangements for next year's Conference are well under way and you can find more details inside from Sarah.

We are still keen to raise awareness of the Group. If you are visiting your hospital, please please take the time to contact us and we will send you some leaflets to take and put on display in outpatients or on the ward. We have a good number of members, but there are many more people to reach!

As always, thank you for your support - it is much appreciated!!

With kind regards

Helen Small
